Hi there! My name's Anna and I'm a designer. I've been designing for web and mobile experiences for about 10 years. I love the challenge of making something both useful and beautiful.

Want to know more? Here's a mini interview I did with myself just for you!

What is your passion as a designer?

I love solving difficult problems with design. That can mean designing a logo or it can mean solving complex user experience problems, such as designing tools that help support the mission and employees of Facebook so they can move faster, collaborate better and waste less time on trivial tasks like booking meetings. Mostly I enjoy seeing real world benefits from the work I do, and I want people to know that good design is good business.

What are your strengths?

I'm a stickler for details. I want the end result to look and work exactly how it was designed, and that means working closely with engineers. I believe great products are the result of great working collaborations between design and engineering, and that's what I always strive for. I'm also a driven self-starter, big picture person. I love defining product strategy by pinpointing how something can be better.

Why internal tools at Facebook?

Honestly it was a bit fluke. They got my name and called me up and I gave it a shot. Once I was in the door, I was hooked on the culture and the mission of the team, to support the people who connect the world. I also saw a ton of opportunity to make things vastly better in a space that was undervalued, and I was intrigued by the challenge to work across many different tools that whole companies dedicate themselves to and see what we could do with a very small team.

What makes you unique?

I believe my job as a designer is to give people what they want before they know they want it. I'm not afraid to ask questions, be wrong, or disagree in the pursuit of making the work better. I love applying design where it can have the most impact and sometimes that means taking on unlikely projects and seeing potential where others don't see anything.

Some (Design) Philosophy

  • Simplicity is elegance, elegance is simplicity.
  • We do the best work by listening, questioning and always being open to being wrong.
  • The proof is in the pudding! It works if it works for people.
  • Usability and visual design are one and the same.
  • The design is the details.
  • Never stop learning and being curious about what you don't know.
  • In order to grow, we must continuously be willing to move past the work of yesterday in favor of building the work of tomorrow.
  • Never underestimate the power of a small change to have big results.
